Dalgety Bay: Ricky Skelding, known for his dedication as a headteacher at Donibristle Primary, passed away recently. He led the school for about 13 years before retiring.
Before that, he was the depute headteacher at Kelty Primary. Even after retirement, he stayed active in the community, coaching kids through the Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.
Ricky was all about getting kids involved in sports. He ran Run Jump and Throw classes at Pitreavie, which became super popular, with many kids joining in each week.
His efforts caught the attention of Scottish Athletics, who asked him to create a program blueprint that helped spread similar classes across Scotland.
Living in Dunfermline with his wife Linda and their four sons, Ricky was also deeply involved with the local sports council, organizing competitions for schools.
These events brought together schools from all over Scotland, creating a fun and competitive atmosphere for the kids.
His contributions to sports earned him an award from the Sports Council, and he had the honor of carrying the Commonwealth Games torch through Dalgety Bay, a moment he cherished.
Linda shared that the family has been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support since Ricky’s passing on January 7. Many have called him a legend, highlighting how he inspired them.
Ricky was a huge football fan and wanted nothing but the best for his students. He believed in giving every child a chance, especially those who might not excel academically.
His family meant the world to him. Linda described him as fiercely protective and proud of their four boys, always sharing their achievements with anyone who would listen.
Ricky loved to laugh and make others laugh, and that’s what everyone remembers about him. A funeral service will be held at Dunfermline Crematorium on January 21 at 2:45 PM.
