Frodsham: So, here’s the scoop. MP Mike Amesbury has pleaded guilty to assaulting a guy during a late-night spat. It all kicked off over a bridge closure, of all things.
This went down on October 26, around 2:48 AM. Amesbury, who represents Runcorn and Helsby, admitted to attacking 45-year-old Paul Fellows right there on Main Street.
According to the court, Fellows recognized Amesbury and approached him at a taxi rank to chat about the bridge issue. They were seen on CCTV talking for a while, and there wasn’t any shouting or aggression at first.
But things took a turn. Footage later showed Amesbury throwing a punch, which led to his suspension from the Labour Party. Now, he’s sitting in Parliament as an Independent.
The Labour Party had said they couldn’t comment much while the legal stuff was still going on. Amesbury himself called the whole thing “deeply regrettable” and mentioned he’s cooperating with the police.
He’s keeping quiet about the details since it’s still an ongoing case. This is definitely a story to keep an eye on!
