Belfast: A driver was caught swerving on the M1. He nearly hit other cars. Police were alerted by a concerned driver.

Aodhan Flynn, 26, faced Craigavon Magistrates’ Court. He was charged with dangerous driving and being unfit to drive due to drugs.

On December 1, 2022, around 1 pm, Flynn was driving towards Moira. Witnesses reported his erratic driving to the police.

Twenty minutes later, police stopped Flynn’s car on the M12 slipway in Portadown. He was the only person in the vehicle.

Flynn seemed drowsy and unsteady. He failed a preliminary impairment test conducted by the police.

Officers noticed his car had a broken wing mirror, a cracked windscreen, and bad tyres. They seized the vehicle for further inspection.

Dashcam footage confirmed Flynn’s dangerous driving. He swerved between lanes and narrowly missed other vehicles.

At 2 pm, Flynn was arrested. A blood sample showed he had cocaine in his system.

Deputy District Judge Rosie Watters noted Flynn’s record of various offenses. However, she mentioned he had no prior driving while unfit charges.

Flynn received an 18-month driving ban and a £250 fine for each of the other offenses.
