Bristol: A motorcyclist is sounding the alarm about safety at Bristol Airport. He says drivers are too scared to stop for pedestrians at crossings because they fear getting fined. This concern came after he got a ticket for stopping to check a tariff board in a no stopping zone.
Rob Hinks, who rode his motorbike to the airport to help a friend, found the parking signs confusing. He thought he could park in the multi-storey car park, but when he arrived, he saw a no entry sign for motorbikes. That’s frustrating, right?
Currently, Bristol Airport is undergoing a big £400 million development. They’re building a new public transport interchange and expanding the parking facilities. But Rob feels the no stopping zone is a hazard for both pedestrians and motorcyclists.
He had to park in the Silver Zone after a bit of a hassle. Thankfully, after he raised his concerns, the airport canceled his fine, which he appreciated. But he still thinks the signage is lacking and makes the area unsafe.
Rob believes it’s crucial for drivers to feel comfortable stopping for pedestrians. He said, “It’s putting motorcyclists at risk.” He even chose to fly from London Gatwick later because he knew he could park there without issues.
Bristol Airport acknowledged the problems. They’ve had issues with vehicles stopping in unsafe spots, leading to the no stopping signs. They’re working on improving the situation and have updated their signs to clarify where motorcyclists can park.
They also mentioned that once the new transport interchange is finished, access to the multi-storey car park will be easier. But for now, Rob and others hope for better signage and safer crossings.
