Clayton County, Georgia, Trayvon Dunnaville, Dericole Daniel, Gas Station Shooting

Clayton County: It’s been two years since Trayvon Dunnaville was shot for opening the wrong car door. The shooter, Dericole Daniel, has finally been indicted for murder.

On that fateful night, Trayvon and his pregnant fiancée stopped at a Shell gas station. He accidentally opened a car door that looked just like theirs, and then, out of nowhere, he was shot four times.

His mom, Tibitha, is heartbroken. She can’t believe her son isn’t here anymore. “It hurts, it hurts to know he’s not here with me,” she said.

After the shooting, police arrested Daniel right away, but it took a long time for the case to move forward. Just last month, he was finally indicted.

When asked why it took so long, the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office didn’t have much to say. But attorney Chris Timmons, who knows the ins and outs of these cases, thinks it might be due to the complexity of the situation.

He mentioned that the video likely shows an unjustified shooting, but there’s a chance a jury might see it differently. They could think Trayvon’s actions were threatening, even if they weren’t meant to be.

Tibitha believes that opening the wrong door shouldn’t lead to a death sentence. She’s holding on to hope for justice, saying, “I asked the lord not to take me until I get justice. Because it is not fair.”
