Bradford: Morrisons is stepping up its game by adding over 100 popular items to its price match promise with Aldi and Lidl. This is a great move for shoppers looking to save some cash.

Starting January 1, you’ll find essentials like olive oil, coffee, eggs, and pasta sauce included in the price match. Morrisons promises to match or beat the prices of its German rivals.

This expansion brings the total to more than 500 products covered under the price match scheme. It’s a nice boost for customers, especially with the existing offers on items like bananas and potatoes.

Morrisons kicked off this price match initiative back in February 2024, starting with over 200 essential products. It’s clear they’re committed to providing value.

Gareth Lloyd, who heads pricing at Morrisons, mentioned they’re focused on delivering great value for customers as they kick off 2025. They’ve been rolling out savings and rewards throughout the year.

Recently, Morrisons faced some hiccups with their More Card loyalty scheme, which caused delays in orders. To make up for it, they offered discounts and made some prices available to all customers, not just loyalty members.

In addition to the price match updates, Morrisons is also making some tough decisions, like closing its Rathbones bakery, which could affect nearly 400 jobs. They’re working on cutting costs and managing their debt.

Sales growth has slowed down a bit, but Morrisons is optimistic. They’ve been investing in prices to stay competitive against Aldi and Lidl, and it seems to be paying off.
