Brixton: It’s been over 30 years since that tragic night when James Akinwande was killed. Now, police are stepping up their efforts to find his attackers.

Detectives are offering a £20,000 reward for any information that could help solve this heartbreaking case. James was just 18 when he was murdered, and his family is still feeling the pain of that loss.

On January 16, 1994, James left a nightclub in Brixton after a night out with friends. It was a lively place, popular with the local community, but sadly, it’s no longer around.

As the night wrapped up, James and his friends decided to head home. But outside, a group of young men targeted him. They chased him down and attacked him, leaving him with fatal injuries.

James tried to escape and even made it to a police van, but it was too late. He was rushed to the hospital but sadly didn’t make it. His family has been devastated ever since.

They shared how much they miss him, describing him as a bright light in their lives. His mother still struggles with the loss, and the family feels a void that can never be filled.

Detective Superintendent Katherine Goodwin is determined to find those responsible. She emphasized that they haven’t given up hope and are still actively searching for the group involved.

She urged anyone with information to come forward, reminding them that it’s never too late to speak up. They want to bring justice to James’s family after all these years.

James was wearing a distinctive red and dark blue FILA jacket that night, which was stolen during the attack. If anyone has seen it or knows anything, they’re encouraged to reach out.

Anyone with tips can call 101 or the incident room directly. There’s also an option to contact Crimestoppers anonymously. Every little bit helps in the quest for justice.
