Devon: So, it turns out there are over 2,000 registered sex offenders living in Devon and Cornwall. Can you believe that? The latest data shows there are 2,202 of them as of March 2024. That’s an eight percent jump from last year when there were 2,032. It’s a bit alarming, right? That means there’s roughly one offender for every 746 people over the age of 10 in the area.

When you look back, the numbers have nearly doubled since 2010/11, when there were just 1,166 registered offenders. It’s a significant increase, and it’s important to note that these figures don’t even include those in prison.

Across England and Wales, the total number of sex offenders has risen to 70,052, up from 68,357 the previous year. The data comes from the Ministry of Justice and focuses on offenders managed by Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements, which is all about preventing further crimes.
