Moray: A council faced a data breach issue. They accidentally posted personal info online for two years. This included names, addresses, and vehicle details.

The Information Commissioner’s Office looked into it. They decided not to take further action after giving the council some advice. The council had posted sensitive information over 30 times on a public website.

Archived posts show that the council only started removing the information after victims reached out. A spokesperson said they have improved security measures to prevent this from happening again.

One woman was shocked to find her personal details online. The posts included her name, parking fine number, and contact information. In total, 31 posts revealed personal data of people who needed extra time to pay fines.

Some posts even included sensitive information, like medical details and benefit status. The council has promised to review their security protocols regularly to ensure this doesn’t happen again.

The Information Commissioner’s Office confirmed they were informed about the breach. They provided advice but chose not to take further action at this time.
