So, Monty Don, the famous gardener, is back on our screens with a new series. He’s traveling around the UK, showcasing some beautiful gardens. It’s always nice to see him doing what he loves.
He first became popular back in 1989 on This Morning, sharing his gardening tips. Since then, he’s hosted loads of shows, including Gardeners’ World. But it hasn’t all been smooth sailing for him.
Before he was a gardening star, Monty ran a jewelry business that was quite trendy. Sadly, it went under after the Wall Street crash in 1987, which hit him hard financially.
Monty has been open about his struggles with depression, especially after his business failed. It really took a toll on him and his family. His wife, Sarah, worried about their kids asking why he was always upset.
Now at 69, he finds gardening helps him cope. He’s also talked about having seasonal affective disorder, which makes the winter months tough for him. He mentioned how November and December are particularly hard.
In 2008, Monty had a minor stroke that forced him to step back from his show for a bit. More recently, he had to cancel some appearances due to an illness that landed him in the hospital for a few days.
He shared that he was rushed to A&E and had to stay in for a while. It’s great to see him back, but it’s clear he’s been through a lot. Here’s hoping he continues to find joy in gardening and good health ahead!
