Angus: Exciting news for Monikie! The local leisure bosses are rolling out a £135,000 aquapark this spring. It’s going to be a giant inflatable, and it’s the only one in Angus!

They plan to launch it on the north reservoir in May. This new attraction is expected to bring in more visitors to the park, which is already a popular spot.

Plus, it’s not just about fun; the project will create nine new jobs—three full-time and six seasonal. The council hopes to recover the investment in about 18 months to two years.

Watersports World, the company behind this inflatable, has set up around 100 aquaparks across the UK. So, they know what they’re doing!

Kids from Monikie and Newbigging primary schools are even getting involved by helping to name the aquapark. How cool is that? They’ll also be among the first to try it out!

Colin Knight, the joint acting chief executive of Angus Alive, expressed excitement about the project. He believes it will not only provide a unique experience but also boost the community with job opportunities.

He mentioned that Monikie is a family-friendly destination, and this new feature will give folks another reason to visit. It’s a perfect fit for the park!

Kellie Smith, the head teacher at the local primary schools, said it’s a great project for the kids, especially since the park is so close to their school. They’ll be creating a lasting memory by naming the aquapark.

Angus Alive is making this investment even though leisure trusts are facing financial challenges. Mr. Knight noted that they have to make tough decisions regularly, but this investment is crucial for promoting healthy lifestyles and generating revenue.

Monikie Country Park already offers activities like kayaking and paddle-boarding. In 2023, plans emerged to turn Monikie and nearby Crombie into a major destination with holiday lodges and treetop walkways.
