Bispham: You won’t believe this, but Kiena Dawes’ abuser, Ryan Wellings, made a video right after her death. He was rapping and drinking prosecco, totally out of line.
Just an hour after being charged with manslaughter, he posted this video on Facebook. In it, he blamed Kiena’s mom for her death while cruising in a car with loud music blasting. It’s just sickening.
He even had the nerve to say, “I was told off an hour ago on a manslaughter charge. It’s all f***ing s**t.” Can you imagine? This guy is a real piece of work.
Wellings, 30, was caught on police bodycam crying fake tears during his arrest. Kiena, only 23, had been through two years of abuse before she took her own life. It’s heartbreaking.
She left her baby daughter with a friend and drove to a railway line in July 2022. In her suicide note, she wrote, “I was murdered” and said Wellings had “killed me.”
Even after all this, Wellings was found not guilty of killing her but was convicted of assault and controlling behavior. During the trial, he claimed he didn’t mean to intimidate Kiena’s family with that video.
He said he was sleep-deprived and had been drinking and using drugs. He tried to play it off like it was an accident, but it’s hard to believe that.
The court heard that from the start, he was abusive, controlling Kiena and making her life miserable. She had a tough time with her mental health, and he took advantage of that.
They met in January 2020, and it seemed like a fairytale at first. But Kiena soon realized it was a nightmare. She faced regular violence and threats from him.
On the day she died, she left a note saying, “I fought hard, I fought long. I was murdered. Slowly.” It’s just so tragic.
Wellings is set to be sentenced soon, and it’s hard to see how he can escape the consequences of his actions.
