Oldham: Armed police were all over the place on Thursday afternoon after a man got seriously hurt in a shooting.

It seems a guy on a motorcycle fired shots at some men getting out of a taxi around 12:30 PM and then took off. One of the men who got shot was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. The police set up multiple cordons on Shaw Road and nearby streets while they investigated what happened.

Video footage showed armed officers racing to Almond Road about 1:15 PM, blocking the road with their vehicles. They seemed to be checking out a property close by, likely connected to the earlier shooting. A 19-year-old was later arrested in relation to the incident.

Superintendent Phil Hutchinson reassured locals that the heavy police presence was just part of their investigation. He acknowledged that hearing about gun incidents can be shocking, but he emphasized that such events are rare in Greater Manchester.

He mentioned that they’ve seized a record number of firearms recently, and gun discharges are at their lowest. The police are talking to witnesses and residents, and they encourage anyone with information to reach out.

If you know anything, you can contact the police at 101, quoting log 1281 of 16/01/25, or call Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
