Sherfield English: So, there’s this mobile home that might get turned into a proper house. The Test Valley Borough Council is set to make a call on it soon. James Barney is the guy behind the application.

The site is right next to Sandhill Farm, along Newtown Road. It’s a bit of a mixed bag with some big agricultural buildings around, and some have already got the green light for different uses.

According to the planning officer, the mobile home is already there and has a solid base to sit on. The plan is to swap it out for a permanent home instead.

Now, the case officer, Mark Staincliffe, pointed out that this plan goes against some local policies. But he also mentioned that having a mobile home there is a big deal and could help sway the decision in favor of building.

He believes that since the mobile home is already in use, it makes sense to allow the new house. Plus, it won’t mess with the area’s vibe or cause any issues with traffic or nature.

However, the local parish council isn’t too thrilled about it. They argue that building a new house in the countryside usually isn’t allowed. They think the mobile home doesn’t count as a real dwelling since it hasn’t been set up properly.

So, it’s a bit of a tug-of-war between the council and the applicant. We’ll have to wait and see what the committee decides!
