‘Missing You’ Review: A Promising Thriller That Falls Short

This series is based on Harlan Coben’s book from 2014 and takes you on a wild ride through a bunch of mysteries. It’s packed with surprises and secrets, plus a fun cameo from TikTok star GK Barry.
It dropped on January 1, and it’s got five episodes to binge. The cast includes Rosalind Eleazar, Jessica Plummer, and Richard Armitage, among others. The directors, Nimer Rashed and Isher Sahota, really tried to create something special.

But there’s more to her story. Her dad was a cop who got murdered, and the guy who confessed, Monte Leburne, is dying of cancer. Kat wants answers about her dad’s death, and time is running out.
Her friends are pushing her to date again, even suggesting a music-based dating app. That’s when she gets a shocker—she matches with her ex-fiancé’s profile!
There’s a lot going on in Missing You. Who really killed her dad? Why did Josh disappear? Plus, she’s also looking into other missing persons cases. It’s a tangled web of mysteries.
Now, while the show has all the right elements for a gripping mystery, it feels a bit too crammed. It’s like they tried to fit too much into those five episodes, making it feel rushed.
There are some relationships that could have used more time to develop. The flashbacks of Kat and Josh’s relationship are good, but we don’t really get to feel their connection before she matches with him again.
What really stands out is Rosalind Eleazar’s performance. She brings a lot of emotion to Kat, showing her anger and vulnerability really well. Her relationship with her mom is also a nice touch, adding some depth to her character.
As the series wraps up, it tries to tie everything together, but it doesn’t quite hit the mark. With everyone around Kat keeping secrets, it’s tough to deliver a satisfying conclusion.
Still, if you’re looking for a quick mystery to dive into as the new year kicks off, this could be a fun watch while you ease back into work after the holidays.
