Jacksonville: A Florida dog went missing for over a week but made a grand return on Christmas Eve. Athena, a four-year-old German shepherd, rang her owner’s doorbell at 2:30 AM to announce she was back.

Brooke Comer, Athena’s owner, shared the heartwarming moment with a local TV station. She said, “She came pawing at the door, ringing the doorbell.” It was a surprise for everyone, especially since it was Christmas Eve.

Comer explained that the family woke up to find Athena had made it onto everyone’s doorbell camera. The dog had been lost since December 15, leading to a frantic search that involved many people reaching out to help.

Comer mentioned that folks from as far as Jacksonville and Saint Augustine were messaging her, eager to assist in finding Athena. When the dog returned, it was such a joyful moment that the kids woke up from the excitement, despite Comer trying to keep them asleep.

Interestingly, Athena didn’t have a microchip, which could have helped identify her sooner. Comer plans to get that sorted out during the holidays to avoid any future adventures.
