Southeast Queensland: It’s going to be a scorcher this Saturday! The region is gearing up for its hottest day of 2024, with temps hitting around 40C in some areas.
The Bureau of Meteorology is saying Ipswich could see 40C, while Brisbane might hit 37C. The Gold and Sunshine Coasts are looking at 36C and 35C, respectively.
If it gets as hot as they think, Brisbane will have its hottest day of the year and the warmest December day in four years. Crazy, right?
But hold on, there’s a warning about possible severe thunderstorms later in the day. So, it’s not just heat; we might get some wild weather too.
Out west, it’s going to be even hotter. Julia Creek could reach a blistering 43C or 44C. Meanwhile, Birdsville, which was a sizzling 47C on Boxing Day, is expected to be a bit cooler at 36C.
Daniel Hayes from BOM mentioned there’s a chance of showers and storms in the southeast and coastal areas starting Saturday. So, keep an eye out!
In other parts of Australia, it’s a different story. Darwin is looking at a warm 34C with some clouds and a chance of showers. Not too shabby!
If you’re heading to the Melbourne Cricket Ground, expect a mild 24C, but there might be some showers later in the day. And Sydney will cool down to 26C after some wild weather on Friday.
Perth is set for a peak of 29C, while Hobart will be much cooler and wet, with temps below 20C. Quite the contrast across the country!
