Kinloss: This Christmas Day is shaping up to be the warmest on record for parts of the UK, especially in Northern Ireland and Scotland. Can you believe it? Temperatures hit 11.9C in Kinloss, Moray, and 11C in Killowen, Co Down, according to the Met Office.
It’s a cloudy day, with no snow in sight. Meteorologist Kathryn Chalk mentioned that we’re in for a mild and cloudy Christmas. But hey, there are some bright spots too, mainly in central and eastern areas.
In Dyce, Aberdeen, the temperature reached a balmy 14.2C. Wales and Durham also saw mild weather, with temperatures around 13.9C and 13.8C, respectively. People are taking advantage of this warm weather, diving into the sea for a festive swim.
At Boscombe Pier in Bournemouth and Hunstanton in Norfolk, folks were charging into the water, ready to celebrate. And let’s not forget the Serpentine Swimming Club in London, which held its annual Peter Pan Cup race in Hyde Park.
As the day goes on, rain is expected to sweep across Scotland and Northern Ireland overnight. It’ll be cloudy elsewhere, with some drizzle in the west, but there might be a few clear intervals and local fog patches.
Looking ahead to Boxing Day, more rain is on the way for central and southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland. But don’t worry, it’ll mostly be dry and mild further south. Just another cloudy day, really.
Friday is expected to be mild and cloudy too, but the weather will turn brighter and colder with some blustery showers as we head into the weekend. So, enjoy the mildness while it lasts!
