Mumbai: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) just made a big announcement. They’re changing the rules to help people who benefit from their housing schemes. Now, you won’t have to pay maintenance fees and property taxes until you actually get the keys to your new place.

This is a game-changer for folks waiting for their homes. Before this, people had to start paying these fees right after they were allotted a property, even if they hadn’t moved in yet. That just didn’t seem fair, right? It put a lot of pressure on people financially.

With this new policy, you’ll only start paying once you officially take possession of your flat or plot. It’s all about making things fairer and clearer for everyone involved.

MHADA’s CEO, Sanjeev Jaiswal, mentioned that the authority is responsible for the properties until you get the keys. He stressed that beneficiaries shouldn’t have to deal with costs due to delays that are out of their control. It’s a step towards fairness, and it’s about time!

But that’s not all. MHADA is also working on making the whole housing allocation process more transparent. They’re telling their engineers to include all pending charges in the sale price upfront. This way, there won’t be any surprise costs later on.

If you’ve already moved in but are still being charged by your housing society, MHADA plans to sort that out directly with them. They’ll handle the payments, but if you’ve already paid, don’t expect a refund under this new policy.

They’re also tackling any outstanding dues from previous months. MHADA will use some of their cushion funds to cover these costs, so you won’t have to worry about extra charges because of delays.

This new decision is set to bring some much-needed relief to those waiting for their homes in MHADA’s housing schemes. It’s a positive change that many have been looking forward to!
