Taipei: Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu has died at 48. She reportedly contracted pneumonia while on vacation in Japan.
Barbie was famous for her role in the 2001 series Meteor Garden. Her sister, Dee Hsu, confirmed the news to TVBS News.
Dee shared that their family was in Japan for Lunar New Year. Sadly, Barbie passed away after getting pneumonia from influenza.
In Meteor Garden, Barbie played Shancai, a girl from a middle-class family. She navigated love with wealthy heirs at an elite school.
Her co-stars formed the popular boyband F4. After her death, Ken Chu, a member of F4, shared a tribute on Instagram.
Barbie had a history of health issues, including epilepsy and heart disease. She leaves behind her husband, DJ Koo, and two children.
Many fans paid tribute to her on social media. One wrote, “Big S has always been a part of my youth.”
