Greater Manchester: Looks like we’re in for a soggy New Year’s Eve! The Met Office is predicting heavy downpours that could really put a damper on the celebrations.
They’ve issued five yellow weather warnings and one amber warning for today. The yellow warning for Greater Manchester kicks in at 3 PM and lasts until 11 AM tomorrow.
It’s not just Manchester, either. Areas like Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, and even Wales are on alert for heavy rain that might cause some flooding.
Every borough in Greater Manchester is expected to get hit with heavy rain. The skies will start to cloud over, and by midday, light rain will begin. But don’t get too comfy; the real downpours are expected to start around 1 PM.
As the clock strikes midnight, it looks like the rain will still be pouring in Manchester. It should ease up to light rain by 9 AM tomorrow, but some places might be stuck with it until later.
Today’s temperatures will reach a high of 11C, but it’ll drop to around 5C overnight. And don’t forget about the wind! Gusts could hit 48 mph this morning, slowing down a bit tonight.
Looking ahead, temperatures are set to drop even more. By New Year’s Day, we could see highs of just 7C and lows plummeting to -1C overnight.
Thursday is going to be chilly, with highs of only 2C and lows dipping to -3C. Some areas might even see temperatures as low as -4C!
On a national level, the Met Office has issued several weather warnings for the week, so it’s definitely a good idea to keep an eye on the forecast.
