Cardiff: So, the Met Office has put out another yellow weather warning for ice. This one’s covering Cardiff and the southeast of Wales. They dropped the warning around 8pm on Wednesday.
This warning is set to last from 12:15am Thursday until 10:30am. It looks like temperatures could dip to -6°C in parts of Powys. In other areas, like south Wales, it might be between -1°C and -4°C early Thursday morning. With all the rain and maybe some snow, those wet surfaces are likely to freeze overnight.
The forecast is pretty clear: after the rain and snow, those cold, wet surfaces are going to freeze up, making things icy. This could lead to some slippery roads and pavements, which isn’t great news for anyone out and about.
This warning isn’t just for Cardiff; it also covers places like Caerphilly, Newport, and Monmouthshire. The Met Office has a map that shows exactly where the warning applies, so folks can stay informed.
There’s also another yellow warning for snow and ice in other parts of Wales, including Carmarthenshire and Gwynedd. The weather maps show where it’s going to be the coldest. For instance, Builth Wells in Powys is expected to hit -6°C, making it the chilliest spot in the country.
As for Thursday morning, Llandovery might see -5°C, and Newtown could be around -4°C. Even the warmest place in Wales on Thursday morning, west Pembrokeshire, is only expected to reach three degrees above freezing.
Temperatures will start to climb throughout the day, but it’s still going to feel pretty cold. By 7pm, most of Wales will likely be back to freezing or even lower.
