London: The Met Office has put out an ice warning for the city after a chilly night of snow. Some areas in South London woke up to a light dusting of snow this morning, as the wintry weather moved across southern England.

So, if you’re heading to work today, be careful! The icy conditions could make your commute a bit tricky. The Met Office said that surfaces are wet and cold from the rain and snow we had last night.

They mentioned that while some areas might dry out before freezing, many untreated surfaces could turn icy and dangerous overnight. This is especially true for the western parts of London, while some eastern areas might be a bit luckier.

Also, there’s an amber cold-health alert in place until Sunday. The UK Health Security Agency warns that these freezing temperatures could affect healthcare services and increase risks for those over 65.

It’s going to stay cold in the city, with temperatures dropping to -2°C tonight. The Met Office says this chilly spell will last until Tuesday when it should warm up to around 9°C.

Five-day forecast for London

Today:

Expect a cold and frosty start with icy patches on untreated surfaces. The morning should clear up, leading to a sunny day, but it’ll still be pretty chilly with a high of 4°C.

Tonight:

Another cold night ahead, with widespread frost. Some clouds will move in from the west, but temperatures will still drop to around -6°C.

Friday:

Clouds will spread east, with a chance of light rain in the far west, maybe even some wintry weather in the hills. Early fog will clear, but it’ll remain cold with a high of 4°C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday will be cold and dry, with widespread frost and daytime temperatures just above freezing. Freezing fog patches are possible, but temperatures should gradually improve by Sunday and Monday.
