Chillicothe, Ohio, Andrew Lansing, Corrections Officer, Inmate Assault, Memorial Services

Chillicothe: So, there’s been some sad news out of Ohio. Memorial services are coming up for Andrew Lansing, a corrections officer who lost his life during an inmate assault on Christmas Day.

The visitation is set for January 2 at Chillicothe High School’s Hatton Memorial Gymnasium, running from noon to 6 p.m. Then, the funeral will take place the next day at 1 p.m. It’s a tough time for his family, and they’re asking for donations to Shriner’s Hospital instead of flowers.

Lansing was a dedicated officer, and he had volunteered to work overtime that day. ODRC Director Annette Chambers-Smith shared that he was just doing his job and doing it well. It’s heartbreaking to think about what happened.

The attack occurred when the inmate veered off from his group and found Lansing in his guard shack. It’s a tragic reminder of the risks that come with the job.
