Perth: A health alert has been raised after measles cases popped up in two travellers who came back from Singapore. One of them landed at Perth Airport on December 8, and they were already infected.
This person visited several places around the metro area while contagious, including the airport and a couple of health services. So, if you were around those spots between November 30 and December 6, keep an eye on your health.
Health officials are really stressing the importance of getting vaccinated before any overseas trips. Another traveller from Singapore also arrived on November 30 and was out and about in the area until December 6.
Dr. Paul Armstrong from WA Health is urging anyone showing measles symptoms to get tested. If you think you might have it, wear a mask and reach out to a doctor before heading to a clinic.
Measles has been pretty much wiped out in Australia for over 25 years thanks to vaccinations, but sometimes we still see imported cases. Symptoms usually start with a fever and cough, followed by a rash a few days later.
If you’ve been to any of the exposure sites, keep an eye on your health for up to 18 days after you might have been exposed. You can find a full list of those locations on the WA Health alert website.
