Stockport: The recent flooding at Meadow Mill has really taken a toll on the local businesses. Six companies have had to close their doors for good after the water damage from the River Tame overflowed. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.

Gemma Papp from the Hewer-White Trust, which manages the site, shared how heartbroken the tenants are. They’ve had to leave because the damage was just too severe. Right now, they’re working on restoring power and making the area safe again.

Unfortunately, none of the businesses could get insurance since the estate is right next to the river, which has a history of flooding. This has hit the charity hard, as they rely on rent from these units to support vulnerable families and individuals.

Gemma is set to meet with the Environment Agency soon to discuss the unexpected flooding and whether the warnings were adequate. The agency claims they issued a lot of warnings before the flood, but it seems that wasn’t enough.

Meanwhile, 200 residents who were evacuated are still waiting to return home. One resident, Dave Howarth, described the last couple of weeks as the worst experience of his life. He’s been stuck in temporary housing and is frustrated with the lack of support from his landlord and the insurance company.

Despite some reimbursement for his hotel costs, the uncertainty has taken a toll on his mental health. His estate agent has assured him they’re working on the issue, but it’s been a rough ride for everyone affected by this disaster.
