Meadow Mill: Get flood-hit residents back home, urges council

Stockport: Many folks who had to leave their homes at Meadow Mill during the New Year’s Day floods are still waiting to get back. It’s been over a week, and the place is still without power, heat, or water.

The council is really pushing the owners and management to sort things out. They’re saying it’s just not okay that people are still stuck in this situation. Mark Hunter, the council leader, is pretty frustrated and wants to see some action.

The management company, CERT, claims they’re in touch with the residents every day, but it doesn’t seem like much is changing. Some residents are feeling desperate and even went back to the building, braving the cold without basic amenities.

There are over 200 apartments in that old cotton mill, and it’s a mix of owned and rented places. The council is also worried about how the building’s insurer, AXA, is handling claims. Some residents have run out of money after being told to pay for temporary hotels upfront.

Hunter mentioned that it’s been more than a week since the floods, and the uncertainty is really tough on everyone. He’s hoping for a quick resolution so people can get back to their homes and lives.
