McDonald’s vs KFC Vegan Burgers Taste-Test – Am I Converted
I tried vegan burgers from McDonald’s and KFC to see which one wins

London: I’ve never really tried vegan fast food before.
Honestly, I’m not a huge fan of many food chains, and I’m not a strict vegan either.
But this Veganuary, I thought, why not give it a shot? I know I’m a bit late to the vegan burger scene with places like McDonald’s, KFC, and Burger King.
So, I was curious to see if any of these vegan options could take the place of my beloved McDonald’s cheeseburger.
Especially since I’m thinking about going meat and dairy-free for a bit, I wanted to explore what vegan fast food has to offer.
This week, after work, I decided to hit up my local McDonald’s and KFC to compare their vegan burgers since they’re my go-to spots.
At McDonald’s, I got the McPlant, some medium fries, and a drink for £6.09. The McPlant features a plant-based patty made with Beyond Meat.
It comes with vegan sandwich sauce, ketchup, mustard, onion, pickles, lettuce, tomato, and a vegan cheese alternative in a sesame seed bun.
Then, I headed to KFC for their Vegan Burger, which is a Quorn fillet with their famous 11 herbs and spices, served in a sesame bun with lettuce and vegan mayo, plus regular fries and a drink for £7.99.
Surprisingly, I found out that KFC’s fries aren’t vegan, which must be a bummer for committed vegans.
But here’s the kicker: I actually preferred KFC’s vegan burger! I usually crave McDonald’s for a greasy treat, but KFC won this round.
The Quorn fillet was firm and had a texture similar to chicken, which I didn’t expect at all.
On the other hand, the McDonald’s vegan patty felt a bit too sloppy for my taste.
I also loved the seasoning on the KFC burger; the McDonald’s patty didn’t have much flavor, in my opinion.
What I did appreciate about the McDonald’s vegan option was that it had just as many toppings as their regular burgers.
When it comes to sauces, KFC’s vegan mayo definitely outshined McDonald’s vegan sandwich sauce.
I’m really glad I finally tried vegan fast food, and now I know where to go. Have you given it a shot?
