Mayo, Patriots Face QB Decision with Major Implications vs Bills

The Patriots must decide on their QB for the season finale against the Bills, impacting both player health and draft strategy

New England: So, it looks like Jerod Mayo is in a bit of a pickle with the Patriots. The season’s been a total mess, and now he’s got to figure out what to do with the quarterback situation for the last game against the Bills.

He was asked if he might sit Drake Maye, the starting QB, since both teams are out of the playoff race. Mayo’s response was pretty vague, saying everything is on the table. That leaves room for him to either bench Maye or give backup Jacoby Brissett a shot. There’s even a chance rookie Joe Milton III could see some action.

At this point, the Patriots are sitting at 3-13, so it’s not like they have much to lose. But Mayo’s decision is crucial for a couple of reasons. First off, Maye took a hit last game and came back, but the last thing they want is for him to get hurt in a game that doesn’t matter.

Keeping Maye healthy should be the top priority, especially since he’s seen as the future of the franchise. The second reason is a bit more strategic. The Patriots currently hold the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, and if they lose to the Bills, they’ll keep that pick. Winning could drop them down to No. 4.

Having the top pick could be a game-changer for New England. They could trade it to a team that needs a QB, which could bring in a nice haul. If Maye plays, he might lead them to a win, but starting Brissett or Milton could help them secure that top draft spot.

Mayo insists the team is focused on beating the Bills, so we’ll have to wait and see what he decides as the week goes on. The game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET at Gillette Stadium, so it should be interesting!
