Greater Manchester: Drivers are facing serious traffic jams because pedestrian crossing buttons are freezing up. Reports are coming in from all over the area today.

Places like Rochdale, Littleborough, Middleton, and Oldham are seeing major delays. Some folks are even pouring hot water on the buttons to try and fix the issue.

In one town, a crossing near a pub was changing to red every 30 seconds, causing big backups. It seems like other crossings are having the same problem too.

This all comes as the region is hit by freezing weather. Manchester Airport even had to close its runways for a bit, and schools and roads were shut down.

The problem is that when someone presses the button to cross, it doesn’t release properly because of the cold. One person on social media said every crossing in Rochdale was stuck on red.

People are getting out of their homes to pour warm water on the buttons to help traffic move again. One user mentioned that the buttons are freezing so badly that they stay pressed in.

Another person in Littleborough urged others to help out, saying traffic was a nightmare. They suggested pouring warm water on the buttons to fix the issue.

There were also reports of a crossing on Oakcliffe Road turning red every twenty seconds. While it’s annoying, it’s nice to see people following the rules even late at night.

In Royton, Oldham, someone said the crossing outside Lidl was glitching, turning red too quickly. It’s been really cold, and it seems like the buttons are just freezing up.

Traffic lights in Heywood and Middleton are also affected. One resident suggested that if anyone sees a crossing changing to red when no one is around, they should pour warm water on it.

It looks like all the buttons from Littleborough to Rochdale are frozen, causing a real mess on the roads. A resident on Hollins Lane said they’ve had to defrost buttons multiple times.

They even go out to pour warm water on the buttons outside their house to keep things moving. It’s a bit of a community effort to tackle this freezing problem!
