Winchester: Sandie Edwards, 71, recently had cataract surgery at SpaMedica in Southampton. Now, she’s thrilled to see her favorite singer, Marti Pellow, again. She met him when her vision was still quite poor.
Sandie shared, “I’ve been to three shows and I can finally see clearly! I can’t wait to see Marti Pellow again, and I’m also looking forward to an Elvis tribute act.”
Marti is famous for his hit, “Love is All Around,” and Sandie is definitely a fan.
Last year, she discovered she had cataracts in both eyes and decided to have them removed. She said, “The surgery changed my life. Everyone says my eyes look bright and sparkly now. I can see all the autumn colors, and I truly appreciate my eyesight.”
Sandie had been wearing glasses for years when her optician told her about the cataracts. Each visit revealed they were getting worse, and last year, she learned she needed urgent treatment.
“I knew they were bad when friends waved at me, and I couldn’t even recognize them,” she recalled. “I expected a long wait for treatment, but the team called me the next week for a consultation.”
She was nervous about the initial appointment. “I’ve always been scared of anything to do with my eyes. It took me ages to get used to contact lenses.”
After the surgery, her vision was cloudy at first, but the nurse explained the aftercare, and each day it improved. “After four days, everything was bright and colorful again,” she said, amazed.
Now, Sandie can enjoy her hobbies again, like spending time with her five grandkids and her two-year-old great-grandchild. “I love gardening in the summer and decorating my home,” she added.
Earlier this year, she painted her doors ‘brilliant white’ but was disappointed with the muted result. After her surgery, she realized it was indeed brilliant white; it was just her cataracts affecting her vision!
