Manchester: The city is buzzing with news about a new project. The council is planning a “woodland town” with 4,500 homes in East Manchester. This area will transform disused land and buildings into a vibrant community.

Council leader Bev Craig mentioned that this development aims to connect the city center with Sportcity and the Etihad Campus. It’s like creating a mini-town right in the heart of the city!

Holt Town will not only have homes but also a tram stop, which is super convenient. They’re looking to revamp old mills and warehouses, making the area more lively.

The plan includes affordable housing and office spaces, potentially bringing in around 1,500 full-time jobs. Plus, there’s talk of a cultural hub and a new lido, focusing on walking and cycling instead of cars.

They’re also planning about 15 acres of green space and a river park, which sounds lovely. Both Ashton Canal and the River Medlock will run through this area, adding to its charm.

Craig believes this project will set a new standard for urban regeneration in Manchester. The council has already seen strong public support for these plans, which is always a good sign!
