Manchester: Building projects are at a low point, but the city is still thriving. Council leader Bev Craig believes Manchester will keep growing despite the challenges.
According to Deloitte’s latest survey, only 20 new projects started last year. That’s the lowest in a decade, and it’s been a downward trend for three years now.
Office construction has really slowed down. Last year, over 1.5 million square feet were under construction, which is a 30% drop since 2020. But residential building is holding strong, with nearly 10,800 homes built last year.
Bev Craig pointed out that while Manchester is leading in construction, it’s about more than just buildings. It’s about boosting investor confidence and creating good jobs for locals.
She mentioned that despite the tough economic times, Manchester is still a key player in the UK’s growth. The city is attracting businesses and investments, which is great for its future.
Craig emphasized that the city is not just about construction. It’s about making Manchester a welcoming and vibrant place for everyone.
