Manchester: So, the runways at Manchester Airport are finally open again after being shut down for about three and a half hours because of snow. But hold on, it’s not all smooth sailing just yet.

Passengers are still facing delays, and some flights have been cancelled or redirected. The airport had to close the runways around 6 am, but they worked hard to get things cleared up as quickly as possible.

With the heavy snow piling up, dozens of flights were delayed, and a few were even cancelled. The weather’s been pretty rough, with three warnings issued, including an amber alert for snow and ice that’s in effect until midday.

Before the closure, the last flight to land was a TUI flight from Cancun at 6:05 am. After the runways reopened around 9:30 am, two Virgin Atlantic flights from Orlando and Bridgetown managed to land.

At 9:43 am, the airport confirmed on X that the runways were back in business. They mentioned that while the runways are open, some flights might still be delayed as they work on de-icing the planes and clearing the walkways.

They advised everyone to check with their airlines for the latest updates and to allow extra time for travel today. A big shoutout was given to the teams for their hard work in getting things back on track.

As for today, January 5, many flights from Manchester Airport are still running late. EasyJet flights are particularly affected, with delays of half an hour or more. Other airlines like Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2, and TUI are also seeing delays.

Unfortunately, at least nine flights have been cancelled, including three KLM flights to Amsterdam, and some flights have had to divert to other airports.
