Manchester: So, guess what? Manchester Airport had to shut down its runways because of a surprise snowstorm. This heavy snow hit Greater Manchester this morning, and it really caught everyone off guard.
Even though the Met Office had a weather warning for snow and ice in Wigan, the rest of Greater Manchester didn’t get one. But that didn’t stop the snow from causing chaos on the roads, and a bunch of schools decided to close for the day.
Now, with the airport’s runways closed, it’s just another hiccup in a week full of travel troubles thanks to this cold snap. A spokesperson from the airport said they’re working hard to clear the snow and get things back to normal.
They emphasized that passenger safety is their top priority and asked everyone to be patient. They also suggested checking with airlines for the latest flight updates and to allow extra time for travel today.
As for the weather, it looks like temperatures will stay below zero until late morning. But don’t worry, they’re expecting some sunny breaks by lunchtime, followed by a clear and chilly night, according to the Met Office.
