Birkenhead: Brandon Daord is gearing up for a big moment in his boxing career. He’s set to fight for the British Super Flyweight title against Matty McHale in Glasgow next month. If he wins, he’ll be the first from his town to snag a national title.

Brandon’s journey hasn’t been easy. Five years ago, he faced a tough time out of the ring. He shared that his family always had high hopes for him in sports. Growing up, he watched boxing with his grandad and uncle, which sparked his passion.

He started with Thai boxing but quickly switched to boxing at the Venture Boxing Club. He’s grateful for the sport, saying it’s kept him grounded and taught him valuable life lessons. Winning a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in 2015 was a highlight, but the road hasn’t always been smooth.

Brandon was stuck in a frustrating contract, and when that ended, COVID hit, halting his progress. He felt like every time he tried to move forward, something pulled him back. But now, with matches back on, he’s ready for this big fight.

He knows his opponent is tough but believes in focusing on himself. He’s proud of his roots and feels the pressure of history won’t weigh him down. The match is on February 8 at East Kilbride’s Playsport centre, and it’ll be broadcast on BBC channels. Fingers crossed for Brandon!
