Halifax: The internet can be a lifesaver for DIY projects, right? Just ask Chuck Ryan, who built a backyard hockey rink using tips he found online.
You can’t miss the bright lights shining on his rink along Herring Cove Road. It’s a real winter wonderland!
Chuck shared, “I built it first last year. I didn’t know what I was doing, but Google’s a wonderful tool.” He’s definitely making the most of it this season.
Thanks to the chilly weather, he’s already had some great skating days. “Last year, we got a solid month out of it. This year, so far so good. We skated all over Christmas, and it’s going to be cold for the next couple of weeks,” he said.
His kids are loving it too! Audrey McNeil said, “I like just playing with my friends and practicing.” And Lillian Ryan added, “You get to improve your skills without having to book a rink or drive anywhere.”
Chuck mentioned that while the rink looks level, it’s not quite perfect. “You have to account for that, but I just wanted to get my kids out skating more,” he said. Sounds like a fun family project!
