Mooloolaba: So, there’s this guy, Keith Lees, who’s been accused of killing his partner back in ’97. After a long police hunt, he’s finally facing court. Can you believe it’s been over 27 years?
He’s 72 now and was flown from New South Wales to Queensland with detectives after a Sydney court gave the green light for his extradition. The case revolves around the death of Meaghan Louise Rose, who was just 25 when she died on the Sunshine Coast.
They found her body at Point Cartwright Cliffs, and at first, they thought it was a suicide. But in 2009, they reopened the case, and just this past June, they even offered a $500,000 reward for info leading to a conviction.
It turns out Lees had been dodging the law for about 18 months, using a fake identity. He was finally caught in a rural area near Sydney. Now, he’s set to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court after spending a night in a police watch house.
Queensland detectives had been on his trail, and they even spoke to him in Victoria before his car was found abandoned. It’s a wild story, and the police are still offering that big reward for anyone who can help crack the case.
