Gillingham: A man spat in a Tesco worker’s face after being asked to leave. This incident happened on January 31. Kent Police responded to reports of the assault at the store on Sturdee Avenue.

When officers arrived, they learned that the man had spat at a worker. They later arrested Ashley Webb, 47, at his home on James Street in Gillingham.

Webb faced charges for assault. He pleaded guilty in court on February 1. The court sentenced him to 100 hours of unpaid work and ordered him to pay compensation and court costs.

On the same day, police made more arrests. They caught two people in Iceland on Chatham High Street for stealing steaks. Officers reviewed CCTV footage and arrested them shortly after.

Terri Aldridge, 37, and Kieran Humphreys were charged with theft. They were held in custody to appear in court on February 1.

Another suspect, Adam Roberts, was arrested for stealing coffee from the Co-op in Dartford. He was charged with theft and violating a court order that banned him from the store.

Roberts, 37, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four weeks in jail on February 1.

Police also arrested a man for two thefts related to food stolen from Asda and a charity shop. Peter Cotton, 46, was charged and held in custody for a court appearance on February 3.

Chief Inspector Garry Cook emphasized that shoplifting affects everyone. He stated that police will pursue suspects and ensure they face justice.
