Kingston: A man is in custody, accused of trying to kill a woman by setting her on fire. It’s a shocking case that has everyone talking.
The 34-year-old woman was discovered with serious burns at her home on Saturday morning. Paramedics rushed her to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where she’s in a serious condition.
Police quickly arrested a 36-year-old man nearby. He was charged with attempted murder, common assault, and breaching domestic violence orders. He didn’t get bail, either.
According to the police, the two had a heated argument around 7:45 AM. That’s when the man allegedly pulled out a lighter and set her on fire. Just wild.
He’s set to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court on Monday. Meanwhile, crime scenes have been set up at the home, a nearby park, and the Kingston train station.
This incident happened just hours before a vigil was held to remember 87 women who lost their lives to gender-based violence in 2024. Micaela Cronin, Australia’s Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence Commissioner, led the event.
She emphasized the need for urgent action to combat gender-based violence, reminding everyone that each woman lost was a mother, sister, daughter, and friend. It’s a heartbreaking reminder of the issue we face.
Ms. Cronin also mentioned that there are various ways to track domestic and family-violence-related deaths, highlighting the importance of addressing this crisis.
