Stonehouse: A 66-year-old man, Anthony Gardiner, has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering a 76-year-old man, John Coxon, who had Alzheimer’s. Gardiner was already serving time for robbery when he decided to exploit Coxon for money.

Gardiner attacked Coxon in his home, stamping on his head. Coxon, who had serious health issues, was known in the community for his past crimes involving children. It’s a tragic situation all around.

In court, it came out that Gardiner had previously tried to get money from Coxon by claiming he found his wallet. When he didn’t get the cash, he resorted to violence. It’s just heartbreaking to think about how vulnerable Coxon was.

After the attack, Coxon was found on the floor with severe injuries and later died in the hospital. Gardiner, who initially denied the assault, eventually confessed to police, even carving a message into his dinner plate about being a killer.

The judge didn’t hold back, calling Gardiner a dangerous man who carried out a brutal attack on someone who was already frail. He received a minimum of 20 years before he can even think about getting out.

It’s a grim reminder of how some people can take advantage of others, especially those who are vulnerable. The whole case is just tragic.
