Sunderland: So, there was this incident where Mark Wyatt, a football fan, really messed up. He ended up giving his cousin, Anthony Robson, a serious brain injury after a punch outside a bar.
It all went down after a few drinks following Sunderland FC’s last match of the season. What started as some friendly banter turned into a heated argument. Mark threw a punch, and Anthony fell back, hitting his head hard on the road.
That punch caused Anthony to suffer two brain bleeds, and he had to undergo major surgery where they removed a chunk of his skull. He spent over two months in the hospital, including a month in intensive care, before moving closer to home for rehab.
Now, Anthony can’t work or drive, and he struggles with his hearing, sight, and balance. He’s really feeling the impact of this injury on his life and dreams, like retiring in Thailand someday.
Mark, who had no prior convictions, admitted to causing grievous bodily harm. He told the court he had been drinking heavily that night. The judge called it a senseless act with terrible consequences and gave him a suspended sentence, along with some community service and rehab requirements.
Mark expressed his remorse in court, saying he thinks about what happened every day and wishes he could take it back. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved, and it’s clear that the fallout from that night will linger for a long time.
