Man jailed after violent assault on four North Wales hospital staff

Wrexham: So, there was this pretty shocking incident at a hospital recently. A guy named Jamie McAdam from Colwyn Bay got himself into a lot of trouble after he attacked four staff members at Glan Clwyd Hospital. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison for his violent behavior.

It all went down on December 6, 2023, when McAdam was at the hospital for treatment. He was heavily intoxicated and had taken ketamine, which led to him becoming aggressive. He ended up spitting, biting, and verbally abusing the staff who were just trying to help him out.

Things got really out of hand. He even bit through a cannula and tried to smear his blood on the nurses, claiming he had hepatitis. One nurse got a nasty bite on her arm while trying to bandage him up. A hospital porter who stepped in to help was also targeted when McAdam tried to bite him.

Even after being sedated for a CT scan, he kept lashing out at a security guard. When doctors said he was fit to leave, he refused and caused more chaos until the police showed up to arrest him. The court found out he had a pretty long rap sheet with 28 previous convictions for 53 offenses.

Carol Shillabeer, the Chief Executive of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, spoke out against McAdam’s actions. She praised the bravery of the health workers and emphasized that no one should have to deal with such aggression while doing their job. She made it clear that they will always take action against abuse towards staff.

Judge Nicola Jones also had some strong words for McAdam, saying he intended to cause serious harm to those who were just trying to help him. It’s a tough reminder of the challenges healthcare workers face every day.
