City of London: A man named Rizwan Afzal, 52, has been sentenced to six years and five months in prison for trying to rape a woman at a bar. This incident happened earlier this year, specifically on February 27, 2024.

The woman was unconscious when the attack occurred, and it took her some time to report it to the police, doing so in April 2024. The police jumped into action quickly, checking CCTV footage that showed what happened.

They managed to track down Afzal using a phone number linked to him. He was arrested in late April and later pleaded guilty to attempted rape and sexual assault.

Detective Constable Olivia Hall praised the victim for her bravery in coming forward. She emphasized that the police take all reports of sexual assault seriously, no matter how much time has passed.

She encouraged anyone who has experienced such crimes to report them, assuring them that they would be believed and supported throughout the process.

If someone needs to report a sexual assault, they can call the police at 101 or, in emergencies, dial 999. The City of London police also offer a way to report crimes online, which is confidential and straightforward.

For those who might not be ready to talk to the police yet, there are support networks available. It’s important to know that help is out there.
