Williamtown: So, there’s this guy, Joey Pace, who’s in a bit of hot water. He’s accused of shooting 98 kangaroos on an army base, and he’s not taking it lying down. He showed up in court recently, denying all the charges.
At 43 years old, Joey appeared in Raymond Terrace Local Court after being nabbed by the police. They were on a mission to tackle rural crime in the Hunter Valley area of New South Wales.
His lawyer, Glenn Kable, made it clear that Joey plans to plead not guilty. The magistrate, Gregory Moore, decided to push the case to August 26 for a proper hearing and let Joey stay out on bail for now.
Mr. Moore also told the police to hand over the evidence against Joey by May 1. It turns out, back in December, the police raided Joey’s place and found three guns after discovering the dead kangaroos on the army base in October.
They even found more firearms at another property in the Hunter region. Joey’s got a lot on his plate, facing six charges, including aggravated animal cruelty and discharging a firearm on military land.
He’s also in trouble for not keeping his rifle stored safely and not having proper storage for his ammo. The police got involved after they found the dead kangaroos along with some ammo on the base back in October.
Outside the court, Joey wasn’t saying much. It’s a tough situation for him, that’s for sure.
