A man posing as a food delivery driver has been charged with stealing packages from porches in West Wyomissing, Berks County.

Crime

West Wyomissing, Berks County, Package Theft, Richard Santiago-Medina

West Wyomissing: So, there was this guy who dressed up like a food delivery driver and swiped some packages right off a porch. It all went down on September 1, just before dinner time.

He rolled up, acting all casual, and pulled out an empty Amazon box from his delivery bag. Then, he snagged two packages that were just sitting there. One had a lab manual worth $91, and the other was a microscope kit worth $40.

Lucky for the homeowners, a neighbor’s security camera caught the whole thing. The thief hopped back into a blue car parked nearby.

A few days later, the victim got more footage showing what looked like the same car cruising down the street about ten minutes before the theft. Talk about bad luck!

Officer Elizabeth Fisher got involved and found out that a blue Honda Civic was spotted on a nearby road right around the same time. And guess what? They even saw a red delivery bag in the back window.

After some digging, they discovered the car belonged to Richard Santiago-Medina, a 40-year-old from Reading. He was later charged with stealing packages from two different porches.

As the investigation continued, it turned out that Wyomissing police were also looking into him for a similar theft on the same day. They had security footage showing him wearing the same outfit.

On October 21, Santiago-Medina showed up at the Wyomissing Police Department for questioning. He was wearing the same sunglasses as the thief and had similar tattoos. Not a great look!

At first, he denied taking anything but then said if he did, he’d pay for it. Classic move, right?

He’s now facing charges for theft, receiving stolen property, and having an instrument of crime. He waived his hearing on December 23 and is currently free while waiting for the next steps in court.
