North Tyneside: A man lost his life in a collision this morning. It happened just before 11:25 AM on Norham Road North, close to Middle Engine Lane.

Reports say a grey Peugeot 407 was heading south when it collided with a white Honda Civic coming from the opposite direction. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, the driver of the Peugeot, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead right there. His family has been notified and is getting support from specially trained officers.

The driver of the Honda stayed at the scene and is helping the police with their investigation. The road is currently closed in both directions between the roundabout after the New York bypass and Middle Engine Lane.

Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit is looking into what happened and is asking for anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage to come forward. Sergeant Alex Partington expressed condolences to the family and emphasized the importance of gathering information from witnesses, especially those who might have seen the vehicles before the accident.
