Smethwick: A man was taken into custody after a heartbreaking incident where a two-year-old boy lost his life in a hit-and-run. This tragic event also left four adults injured.
The police got the call just before 11 PM on Saturday about a collision on Dartmouth Road. A grey Porsche Cayenne was involved, and the driver took off after hitting a Toyota Auris that had the boy and four adults inside.
Sadly, the little boy passed away after being rushed to the hospital. A 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man are still in serious condition, while two others, both 30, are stable.
On Monday evening, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was taken in after police received some tips. He’s still being questioned.
It turns out the Porsche was stolen earlier this month, which adds another layer to this awful situation. Police believe the driver was coming from a roundabout on Kenrick Way when the crash happened.
They had to close the road for a while to investigate, but it’s open again now. West Midlands police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.
