MONTREAL: A Pakistani man was arrested in Quebec for allegedly planning to attack a Jewish center in New York City. He’s now in a detention center in Montreal.

Muhammad Shahzeb Khan appeared in court today after being moved from Rimouski. His lawyer hasn’t met him yet to go over the case details.

Khan was taken into custody on September 4 while reportedly heading to Brooklyn to carry out a mass shooting. This was supposedly timed with the anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.

U.S. officials have charged him with trying to support a terrorist group, and Canada is working on extraditing him for trial.

The judge mentioned that the case will be back in court on January 17 to set a date for the extradition hearing. They want to handle this quickly.

Khan was far from Montreal in Rimouski, which made it tough for his lawyer to communicate with him. Plus, Khan doesn’t speak French, so the transfer makes sense.
