Latchford: Early on New Year’s Eve, some thieves tried to break into four homes. It was a busy morning for the police.

They got called around 5am when someone spotted a guy sneaking into their garden shed. The thief took off when the homeowner confronted him.

Then, just a bit later, around 5:50am, another report came in about a suspicious man in a garden on Kingsway South. Again, he bolted when the residents approached.

At 6:30am, police were alerted about a guy peeking into gardens on Reynolds Street. He was dressed in dark clothes and had his face covered, which raised some red flags.

Officers acted fast and arrested a 26-year-old man from Salford on suspicion of theft. He’s currently in custody and helping with the investigation.

Later, at 8:10am, they received another call about tools stolen from a garage on Henshall Avenue. The police are still looking into all these incidents.

They’re asking anyone with info to step forward. Sergeant Neil Mooney emphasized the importance of community help in these situations.

He suggested that residents should secure their outbuildings and keep valuables locked up. Good lighting and security measures can really make a difference.
